The Word and Prayer, J.P.

I have been a Christian from a young age, and I love the Lord and His Word. I came to the Full-Time Training in Anaheim in the fall of 2001. I have learned to spend personal time with the Lord and read His Word every day. This has become an integral part of my life, and I could not live a day without contacting the Lord and reading the Word. Every day I need the nourishment from the Word, and I treasure the time spent with the Lord. Everything else fluctuates; people may change, the environment may change, and even my mood may change, but the Lord and His Word never change (1 Peter 1:24-25). They remain faithful and true through the test of time and turmoil.

My reading of the Word has been enriched through the training. I have learned that reading the Bible and prayer are inseparable. I found out that every verse, every line and every word in the Bible can be turned into prayer. Before, I often didn't know how to pray or what to pray, but now the entire Bible has become my prayer book. Furthermore, I have also learned to treasure the Lord's speaking in the Word.

I want to share a personal experience. It was towards the end of the Training when I had to decide what I was going to do afterwards. But I was not so clear about what direction to take. I didn't know what to do and where to go. Then one day, this word came to me from John 8:12, “And again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Suddenly, I was enlightened as I was reading this verse. He said, “He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness.” I was caught by the word “follow.” The Lord promised that if we follow Him, we shall by no means walk in darkness. That means that if we are following the Lord, He will not lead us into darkness. He will not leave us in confusion, but we will be clear. We shall have the light of life. The condition is that we must follow Him. This word became such a supply to me. I don't need to worry and think so much about what I am going to do or where I should go afterwards. I just need to follow Him. If I take care of following Him, He promised that He would not leave me in darkness; He would not lead me into the wrong way. The more I follow the Lord, the more I will walk in the light, and the more light I will have, the more I will become clear. This verse became a timely word and supply to calm my anxious soul. I am thankful to the Lord that He has given me a chance to learn to follow Him.
